Electronic Fuel Injector Cleaning.

Fuel injection engines are different from carburetor engines of the past by how the fuel is delivered into the engine system on gasoline and diesel engines. Fuel injection engines because popular in the 1980s and are now common on new cars today. A fuel injector forces gasoline through a small nozzle and into the combustion chamber of an engine where it is mixed with air. Over time fuel efficiency can degrade and injectors can become clogged which require fuel injector cleaning.

There are different types of electronic fuel injection systems from the standard single-point fuel injection systems to multi-point fuel injection systems. All electronic fuel injection systems share similar components such as the fuel injectors, a fuel pressure regulator, a fuel pump, different sensors, and wiring which connects all the components together to an engine control module which is a mini computer designed to process readings from the sensors and regulate the amount of fuel and air being mixed together and making adjustments when needed. Problems can result in this system when a fuel injector cleaning is required.

Over time and extended use electronic fuel injection systems can become clogged and even have fuel injectors which will stop working. Part of the problem of fuel injectors becoming clogged has to do the with quality and octane level of the fuel being ran through the system. Another part of the problem with injectors becoming dirty or even stop working has to do with moisture accumulating in the system and can lead to rust and other problems with the injectors which require fuel injector cleaning to solve these problems.

There are different types of fuel injector cleaning available depending upon the type of product or service used. Most people are familiar with fuel injector cleaner products which are added to the gasoline or diesel fuels when the tank is filled. These types of cleaners are no expensive and can be used by anyone. However, these cleaners do not fully clean the fuel injectors because they are being sprayed through the injector under high pressure and move through the system quickly. Chemicals in these cleaners can also cause damage to sensors, seals, and even the catalytic convertor.

Other disadvantages of using fuel injector cleaning products added to the fuel tank is the inability to know how well the cleaner removed build up from the injectors and if there are injectors which are not working or have other problems there is no way to fix these items or to know there are problem without further diagnostics or the removal of the injectors from the engine.

The removal of the injectors from the engine has only one disadvantage over other methods of fuel injector cleaning because they have to be removed from the engine. However, the injectors are able to be fully cleaned, tested, new parts installed and spray patterns can be tested.
